Christmas Cards

Want to make a beautiful handmade mixed media Christmas card to hand out to friends? This card is easy and beautiful. It also would make a great Thank-You Card. We used these as invitations to one of our jujuB parties. I love how this card has so many of my favorite things, fabric, trim, burlap, sewing and paint!!! Get ready for some basic mixed media and dive in with me.

The first thing I did was buy a pack of red paper at Micheals. They only had the 8x 11 size so I knew I needed to do something a little different then the invites we've done in the past. I wanted to conserve paper so I simply cut the 8x 11 paper in half so it would measure 8 x 5.5 inches. Then I folded it in half to make a card. I wanted my card to have lots of texture, so I dipped a small piece of bubble wrap in white paint and stamped it on the front of the card. I love how it reminds me of snow. I just stamped around the edges because I knew I was covering up the middle.

Next I cut out some burlap that would fit on the front. It was roughly 3.5 inches by 4.5 inches. I wanted it to be smaller then the front of the card so you could see the paint around the edges. I also cut a small piece of white lace, which I put on the left hand side. Then I used black thread and did a zig zag stitch all the way around the edge to attach the burlap and lace to the card.

I really wanted to paint a word onto the burlap using a stencil. So I used my Cricut and created a stencil for myself of the word joy. I tried several different sizes before I found one that I liked. I mixed some silver and black paint together and used a stipple brush to paint the word joy on to the burlap.

To add just a little bit more we made a flower clip out of some floral ribbon and clipped it to the front of our card. I love how the subtle hints of black tie the whole thing together.

Happy Holidays!!
