Photography Class

So both of our husbands teamed up at Christmas and got Becky and I a photography class to take together. It was such an amazing and thoughtful gift! We loved that we got to do it together! So we finally learned what those creative modes on our cameras are for, what shutter speed and Aperture mean, and a few composition tips. We took the class here with Illuminate Photography. One of my favorite parts of the class is that we had homework each week. (Trust me I never thought I would write that I liked homework!!) Our homework was to take pictures, so it actually was really fun! Then we would bring our photos into class and have them critiqued. Here are a few of the pictures we took. 

Some of the older folks in our class just wanted to learn how to take pictures of landscapes. Put your camera in Shutter Priority pick a low shutter speed to get this glassy water. If you want to capture individual water drops, pick a high shutter speed. I really wanted to learn how to take pictures of my kids.

This picture was for our self portrait assignment. Some people think I'm crazy for getting married young and wanting a family, but I couldn't imagine my life any other way. 

So for our last class, our teacher had a model for us to take pictures of. He showed us all different kinds of lighting. It was really fun. 

It was definitely a beginner class. Becky and I often would ask, "where is that button?" I still have LOTS more practicing to do. Luckily I have the cutest little girls to chase around and take a million pictures of. I love taking pictures of people, especially children. I love catching a moment or telling a story with my pictures. I love looking at Elizabeth Kartchner's blog for pictures ideas. She is a great photographer and I lover her style!!! She just did this neat post on pictures she was able to get by having her camera close by. I've always liked the saying- you miss 100% of the pictures you don't take. My sister-in-law is also an amazing photographer.  I wish she lived closer and could take all my kids pictures!!! Check Vintage Spice Photography here and her blog here.  Her work is breath taking! 

Invitations

So another party is almost here!!! Becky and I are so excited and have a few new things up our sleeve to debut at next party. For these invitations I was inspired by a beautiful vase of flowers. It had deep purple and deep rich yellow flowers. I wanted something that had a hint of Easter and I liked this combination of deep purple and buttery soft yellow. I added the chocolate burlap for some rich contrast. The burlap's texture made me think of a birds nest, soil, and burlap bags of produce and seeds. I loved how the gold trim gave it sophistication. I used the same pocket idea and included a free clip for everyone!!! I loved the buttery yellow flowers, but we also included white flowers since they are more versatile. Picture Plaques

Just like I promised, I wanted to show off what I did with those wooden plaques I found in UT.  I got them at this store called Wood Connection.  And I am pretty excited about my finished product!  Check it out!

I made this plaque, in sepia to make it look more antiquey, for my parents.  Yep, that is my Mom and Dad almost 40 years ago...don't I come from good stock?  I figure it's a great 40th anniversary gift!

 This is a plaque I did of my girlies....I love these little summer dresses...LOVED the photo in black and white.

 I helped my brother Trent make this one...This is one of his engagement pictures and he gave it to his wife for her birthday.  I thought it was pretty creative and romantic!  I, uh, of course helped him come up with the idea, but truly he made it!  (Almost all by himself;))  I had never done it in color but decided this picture HAD TO BE IN COLOR!  It's fantastic, no?

 He made this one for her too!  I have to say, Kayla is one lucky girl!  This was obviously of their wedding.  Isn't the black and white just classic?

Crafting Spree

This past week my family took a little trip to Utah to visit some family, Ryan had some work appointments, and I had lots of shopping to do!  I came home with a ridiculous amount of stuff....these things were just a few of my favorites....

This truly wasn't even half the stuff I came home with...I think my husband's eyes are still rolling.  Mine are still sparkling...I haven't blinked once:)

 I HAD to feed my ribbon obsession.  I was actually quite proud of myself....I didn't go crazy.;)

 I LOVE these wood plaques and picture frames.  I can't wait to show you what I am going to do with these.  Prepare to be amazed!

 Before my trip I was blog stalking and found this tutorial.  I was crossing my fingers I would get lucky and find some doilies.  I didn't have any luck at the thrift stores or the craft stores.  I did find some at the antique shops but they are always so expensive.  Luckily, my MIL has very giving friends.  My MIL was talking to a good friend who was cleaning some stuff out of her house and she said she had some I could have.  Score!  These are just some of them.  I think I might seriously cry. 

So, when I get my amazing table runner done I will post it--so you can be impressed with my awesomeness:)

 Ahhhhh, (sigh).  While I was busy thrifting I found a bunch of these babies.  I am a full blown golden book collector and I found about 30 while on my thrifting/craft spree. 

 These are just a few of my fav's.  I'm really loving the vintage ones. 

 As a kid I LOVED the Berenstein Bears.  (Still do)  couldn't say no when I found these at the thrift stores. 

 So, these have nothing to do with crafts but are these not AMAZING!  I found them at Ross.  Yes I shop at Ross and am proud of it!  These are only I think my 7th pair of red shoes--but who's counting?  I mean come on, they are Madden Girl's for goodness sake and I found them at Ross for $18!  I don't think Ryan's eyes will stop rolling for a long time when it comes to these.  But they were so worth it!

Utah was definitely worth the trip!  Make sure to check back to see what I do with some of my finds!

I woke up this morning full of excitement. I can not believe our open house is tonight!!! Becky and I have pulled a lot of late nights and have some amazing stuff we can't wait to show you! 

I wanted to make a sign for our open house. Something with our name that we could clip our latest bows and flowers on and I came up with this little beauty. I love the burlap back ground and subtle lace along the bottom. It's so fun mixing fabric into my scrap book projects! Don't you love the flowers?
